1999 Chrysler Cirrus Having Problems?

I own a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus. It has about 125,000 miles on it at the moment. Recently, I’m talking 3 weeks ago, it started having some problems. First problem, the oil light turns on and off once the car is warmed up, and usually when its stopped at a red light or traffic but once the car gets going it goes away.

Second problem, About 2 weeks ago it completely died on me, took it to the shop and they said they had to replace the distributor… towing + parts + labor = $650.00

Third problem, about 5 days ago the check engine light came on and it has been turning on ever since. When the car is running it drives intermittently, sort of like its losing power, or kind of like coughing? I hope you can understand what I mean but that’s what’s happening so far and I’m afraid the car is going to die on me again and I’ll have to spend more $ on it.
Any ideas what the problems might be? Please help.
Hey helpful Bob, you are right, I am not familiar at all with auto parts but the mechanic did use the word distributor…
would it help if i use fuel injector cleaner? I am trying that after reading Eric’s post.
Oh and by the way, towing was $30… so it was $620 for parts and labor, i guess I paid too much huh? How much would have been fair?

I had the car checked at OReilly Auto Parts, they checked the car computer because the "check engine" light turned on and the problem is "cilynder 3 misfire"… whatever that means. Is this related to the distributor job it got done recently?

If you have a 2.5L in your car you have a distributor and they frequently are a problem. I have replaced plenty of them and they cost over $200 in parts. As for the low oil pressure lamp you probably have the oil pressure switch failing. But I would certainly have the oil pressure checked at idle and at 3K RPM to verify this. I have seen several 2.5L engines with this problem. You did not get ripped off if that is what you paid to have it fixed in the first place but I would go back and see if the SES lamp is related to them working on it. For everyone else people please don’t answer peoples questions unless you are sure of the answer that you are giving. Giving people poor advice is worse than giving none at all.

On Saturday December 2nd 2006 David and Micke from the Swedish band Cirrus Winery came by the Roth Händle studio. They were given the full tour of the Studio trying out different Mellotron sounds, Chamberlin Rhythmate, Electric sitars, Optigans and Orchestrons.

They have their own Mellotron MKVI built by Markus Resch so it is always interesting to hear and try out new sounds.

What is wrong with my power steering?

I own a 1997, Chrysler Cirrus, and the power steering is extremely tight when i am sitting still but when i am driving, it is fine. Whats wrong?

I’ve gone out everyday and have seen chemtrails in the sky almost every day! It’s disgusting. Are you tired of those grey or white skies? Well… they’re not all made by nature. Which means they can be stopped. You CAN do something about them.
Some analysis of these chemtrails have allegedly shown traces of Barium, Aluminum and other harmful metals and toxins. There are many reports of illnesses in all areas where chemtrails are…mainly upper respiratory problems, nose bleeds, headaches and dizziness. This is not conspiracy- this has been going on since 1996. This is a GLOBAL issue…not just the US. Do some research and check it out for yourself. Just type in some keywords in your browser- such as chemtrails, persistant contrails, choose any country and do it. Type in ‘Chemtrails in Europe’, or ‘Chemtrails in India’ THEY’RE EVERYWHERE. OUR MILITARY AND GOVERNMENT ARE SICK AND NEED TO BE STOPPED!!!!

Is a used 2000 Chrysler Cirrus LXI Sedan a good purchase?

I have been told that it is very well maintained. looks great, good gas mileaged (19/26). Has only 65,000 miles. And a price tag of $4,500. Have not test driven it, i fully intend to before i decide to purchase. I was just wondering If anyone own’s one and can tell me a little more about how the car rides, problem’s, anything that can help me?

I had a ‘99 Cirrus LXi, and it was a great car. Your mileage figures are right on. Mine got totalled by someone crossing the road ahead of us. Both front seat passengers were protected by the airbags, with only minor injury (sprained wrist). Your price seems pretty good, too. We paid a bit over $5000 for ours, about 3 years ago, and it had apprx 90K on it.

If it has the 2.5V6, pull the spark plug wires you can reach, and look for oil on the rubber end of the wire. If it is covered, as if dipped in oil, the O ring seals are shot. It is hard to do yourself, and would cost apprx $150-200. Worth doing, and a good bargaining chip. The 4 cyl is a diff design, and has no O rings.
Also, be sure it has never had Dexron ATF in it. It takes only ATF+3 (ATF+4 is also ok, but it was designed for ATF+3.). Dexron ATF kills Chrysler transmissions.

Not really. However, you might be able to use it to pay a bill.

That is if the place does not require a expiration date for pinless bill payment and the biller takes maestro pinless payments.

You don’t not enter your pin when paying online. CVV number on the back if it has one, is ok.

DES MOINES, Iowa Looking out the 11th floor window of her law office, Jane Wiggins did a double take and grabbed her camera. The dark, undulating clouds hovering outside were unlike anything she’d seen before.

“It looked like Armageddon,” said Wiggins, a paralegal and amateur photographer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. “The shadows of the clouds, the lights and the darks, and the greenish-yellow backdrop. They seemed to change.”

They dissipated within 15 minutes, but the photo Wiggins captured in June 2006 intrigued — and stumped — a group of dedicated weather watchers who now are pushing weather authorities to create a new cloud category, something that hasn’t been done since 1951.

Breaking into the cloud family would require surviving layers of skeptical international review. Still, Gavin Pretor-Pinney and his England-based Cloud Appreciation Society are determined to establish a new variety. They’ve given Wiggins’ photo and similar pictures taken in different parts of the world to experts in England, and are discussing the subject fervently online.

“They (the clouds) were the first ones that I noted of this type and I was unsure which category to put them under,” said Pretor-Pinney, author of “The Cloudspotter’s Guide.” “When we put pictures up online we list the category, and I wasn’t sure how to categorize it.”

Some scientists are skeptical. They argue that researchers who have long watched the sky haven’t seen anything distinctly new for decades.

There are three main groups of clouds: cumulous, cirrus and stratus. Each has various sub-classifications built on other details of the formation.

Brant Foote, a longtime scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., said the clouds photographed by Wiggins already fit into the existing cumulous classification.

But Pretor-Pinney, who never studied meteorology, believes the clouds merit their own cumulus sub-classification. He proposes they be called altocumulus undulatus asperatus. The last word — Latin for roughen or agitate — is a reference to the clouds’ undulating surface.

“Not necessarily gentle or steady, but quite violent-looking, turbulent, almost twisted in its appearance,” he said.

The group has compiled several photographs documenting the formations from the billowy, rolling clouds shot by Wiggins in Iowa to ones from New Zealand that were much more menacing, hanging lava-like in the sky.

Foote said it would be “very unusual” for such a formation to be recognized as a new variety of cloud.

“People have been looking at clouds for hundreds of years and the general cloud classification is well defined,” Foote said. “It’s not as if someone discovered a new plant in the Amazon. It’s what you’ve seen every day. There was no atmospheric condition that caused a new kind of cloud to form.”

Pretor-Pinney is working with the Royal Meteorological Society in Reading, England, to prepare his case. If that group signs off, the proposal will go to the United Nation’s World Meteorological Organization in Geneva.

Society executive director Paul Hardaker said a small panel within the society is gathering evidence to review. Their efforts include talking with those who took the submitted photos to determinine when, where and amid what weather they were taken. Hardaker said meteorologists tend to be skeptical of such proposals.

“We like to believe that just about everything that can be seen has been, but you do get caught once in a while with the odd, new, interesting thing,” Hardaker said. “By this stage we think it’s sufficiently interesting to explore it further and we’re optimistic about the information we’ve got.
