‘Willys’ jeep trend
October 20th, 2009 | by admin |
Call it a craze for vintage military vehicles! ‘Willys’ jeeps, which are World War II relics refurbished and refitted with modern accessories are the haute four-wheeled beauties preferred by Punjab’s youth these days. These Jeeps, which had become an icon in the 70’s and 80’s are back in demand after a hiatus of a few decades. The connoisseurs of these jeeps do not include just Indians, but also wealthy NRI youths.

I understand. If …
I understand. If you want a WRANGLER then get one, but don’t get a Willys and turn it into a wrangler. I have done some mods on my 54 3B but most have been undoing what others have done to it. sold the 15″ chrome wheels, got rid of the bucket seats, full bench seat in the rear and numerous other pieces of crap. Am still not sure how to get rid of the chevy steering column. I have an original, but the gear box was moved to the front bumper area. It feels like power steering, but isn’t. Hoorah!!

as an owner of a willys MB war spec jeep it makes me sick how many video’s there are on you tube of war time jeeps being chopped to bits and modified by people.
it’s a shame that original willy’s and ford jeeps should fall into the hards of these idiots when there are people out there who want to bring them back to all there former glory that can’t get there hands on one.

I think these are GREAT! I wouldn’t do this to my 49 but then these are not my 49. It’s good to see the Willys influence around the world. I guess these Mahindras are like the Jeepnys in the PI.

even the willys …
even the willys produced by mahindra aren’t available at all these days..very rare..so these r just custom made replicas of the classic willys which r later modified…from body to chasis everythin is custom made……because of huge demand n no availabilty of originals……
therefore they r not messin up with historical artefacts…..moreover everone doesn’t pimp it,,,some prefer the classic shape……

I agree …
I agree whole-heartedly! No part of history should be tampered with; especially if it doesn’t belong to you. Yea, sure… it may seem only a “car” to them and nothing of value like an ancient temple or the like may be; but in our eyes these are symbols of America! True Americans should be disgraced by this atrocity. If I ever come across the opportunity to own one of these relics, I would be sure to return it to and keep it the way it was meant to be!
God Bless AMERICA!

Settle down. There is a company in India that bought the rights to produce Willy’s Jeeps in the 50’s and have been building new Willy’s ever since.

this is outrageuos, …
this is outrageuos, ww2 vintage jeeps should not be modified like this, it does no justice to the vehicle. give these jeeps to people who are willing to keep them in historical and mint condition, not modified to the extent they are almost unrecognizable! trader them in for newer jeeps thatr are meant to have these kind of modifications, and give these vintage ones to people who care about history and dont just want to destroy them and dress them up with modern crap!

Keep your eyes and …
Keep your eyes and ears open. Find an older Jeep. You can find almost any part new except for engine block, trans. and axle housing. It will be a good learning experience and when you’ve completely rebuilt your jeep good as new it will cost you less than a used late model. And it will be cool plus fun!
